PM Announces Extension of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana

IN NEWS

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the nation and announced the extension of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana till the end of November 2020.

PURPOSE

  • The prime reason behind the extension of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, Modi mentioned that the calendar would be seeing a number of festivals.

PRADHAN MANTRI GARIB KALYAN PACKAGE

  • Insurance scheme for health workers fighting COVID-19 in Government Hospitals and Health Care Centers- compensated with an amount of Rs 50 lakh under the scheme
  • PM Garib Kalyan Anna (अन्न) Yojana- would be provided with double of their current entitlement till Diwali.
  • The first installment of Rs 2,000 due in 2020-21 will be front-loaded and has been paid in April 2020 itself under the PM KISAN Yojana
  • Support for senior citizens (above 60 years), widows and Divyang:Government will give them Rs 1,000 to tide over difficulties during next three months.
  • Under PM Garib Kalyan Yojana, MNREGA wages would be increased by Rs 20 .
  • Self-Help groups: Limit of collateral free lending would be increased from Rs 10 to Rs 20 lakhs.
  • Organized sector: allows non-refundable advance of 75 percent of the amount or three months of the wages, whichever is lower, from their accounts.
  • Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Fund: State Governments will be given directions to utilize this fund to provide assistance and support to these workers to protect them against economic disruptions.
  • District Mineral Fund-The State Government will be asked to utilize the funds available under District Mineral Fund (DMF) for supplementing and augmenting facilities of medical testing, screening and other requirements in connection with preventing the spread of COVID-19 pandemic as well as treating the patients affected with this pandemic.

ABOUT

  • “MATSYA SAMPADA” published by the Department of Fisheries, Ministry for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India and the Operational Guidelines of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).
  • The Government of India in May, 2020 launched a new Flagship Scheme i.e. the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) for sustainable and responsible development of fisheries sector at an investment of Rs. 20050 crore. The PMMSY with an array of 100 diverse activities is by far the largest ever investment in fisheries sector. The time period of PMMSY is from FY 2020-2021 to FY 2024-2025.

PURPOSE

  • The Newsletter “MATSYA SAMPADA” is likely to serve as an effective tool and platform in disseminating the intent and initiatives of PMMSY for crystalizing public opinion in the collective effort towards reaching the envisaged goals.
  • It would also enable to showcase the best practices in fisheries and aquaculture undertaken by the fishers, fish farmers and entrepreneurs including the latest developments and success stories.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF PMMSY

  • Harnessing of fisheries potential in a sustainable, responsible, inclusive and equitable manner and productivity through expansion, intensification, diversification and productive utilization of land and water.
  • Modernizing and strengthening of value chain - post-harvest management and quality improvement
  • Doubling fishers and fish farmers incomes and generation of employment
  • Enhancing contribution to Agriculture GVA and exports
  • Social, physical and economic security for fishers and fish farmers
  • Robust fisheries management and regulatory framework.

CONCLUSION

  • Releasing the Operational Guidelines of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, Matsaya sampada expresses optimism that the PMMSY with diverse interventions along the fisheries value chain would revolutionize the fisheries and aquaculture sector.
