Topic Description:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair an all party-meeting on Jammu and Kashmir on June 24th in New Delhi. Invitations were sent out on Saturday to 14 political leaders from Jammu and Kashmir, including four former chief ministers, for participation in the high-level meeting. Leaders of these parties were telephonically invited by Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla for participation in the meeting, which will be held at the prime minister's residence at 3 PM on Thursday. Soon after the invite for the meeting was extended, hectic political consultations were on in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday. The People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration, which is an amalgam of six political parties including the National Conference, PDP, CPM, Awami National Conference, CPI and JK People's Movement, has convened a joint meeting on Tuesday to discuss their stand on the Centre's invite. The PM's meeting with all political parties from Jammu and Kashmir will be the first one since August 2019, when Article 370 was abrogated and the state was bifurcated into two UTs. What is the agenda of the meeting, why is it significant, what could be the decision of the mainstream regional parties of Kashmir and what the Centre’s initiative means for the political future of J&K.
