Topic Description:

India will provide subsidies to 16 manufacturers of mobile phones and electronic parts, including Foxconn and Samsung Electronics, to expand production in the country. The domestic companies approved for mobile phone manufacturing under the scheme are Lava, Micromax, Padget Electronics among others. The government anticipates that output will rise by a total of 10.5 trillion rupees over the next five years, with just over 60% bound for export. The number of jobs directly created by the companies will top 200,000 over that period. One of the 16 companies, Optiemus plans to invest Rs. 300 crore in the next 2-3 years in the glass ecosystem and mechanical items related to mobile phone manufacturing in the country. With this India may soon pip China and Vietnam to become the number one mobile export hub in the world.
