After an eventful first day, US President Donald Trump and US First Lady Melania Trump were accorded a ceremonial reception by President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. Following this, the Trumps went to Raj Ghat to pay their respects to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. President Trump and PM Modi later met at Hyderabad House for a round of restricted dialogue as well as delegation-level talks. Following this, both the heads of states issued a joint press statement. Trump said ties between his country and India have never been as good as they are now. He expressed hope that India and the US could reach a trade deal "that will be of great importance to both countries", and announced agreements for India to purchase more than $3 billion in advanced US military equipment, including Apache and MH60 Romeo choppers. The visiting dignitary also said efforts have been made to revitalise the QUAD initiative. He also spoke of expanding cooperation on counter-terrorism, cyber security and maritime security to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific.
