Fifty years ago on 19th July, 1969, NASA sent the Apollo 11 mission into space. A mission that for the first time would land human beings on the Moon.

Apollo 11 carried three astronauts- Neil Armstrong, Edwin Aldrin and Michael Collins.

Of them Neil Armstrong on 20th July 1960 became the first person to set foot and walk on the Moon saying the famous words:

That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.

Since then the US has been the only country to have successfully conducted manned missions to the Moon.

The last of such mission left Moon in December 1972.

As many as twelve men have landed on the Moon.

These came in six NASA missions over 41 months between 20th July 1969 and 14th December 1972. Gene Cernan was the last to step off the Moon surface.
