Elections to 310 Block Development Councils will be held in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. Counting of votes will also be held on the same day..

This will be the first election exercise in the state after the Article 370 was scrapped in the state The Block Development Council elections will be completed before J&K is formally declared a Union Territory on October 31st.

The elections will see nearly 27000 elected Panchs and Sarpanchs elect the BDC Chairpersons in the first phase.

The elections mark another attempt by the Centre to strengthen the grassroots democracy in the State.
