The U.S. government shutdown came to an end Friday night, with President Donald Trump signing a bill passed earlier in the evening by Congress to reopen nine federal agencies that had been closed since Dec. 22. At 35 days long, it was the longest shutdown in U.S. history. Yielding to mounting pressure and growing disruption, Trump and congressional leaders on Friday reached the short-term deal to reopen the government for three weeks while negotiations continue over the president’s demands for money to build his long-promised wall at the U.S.-Mexico border.
