US President Donald Trump’s second summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Hanoi, Vietnam collapsed Thursday without an agreement between the two leaders, plunging future talks on North Korea’s nuclear programme into question. The two sides were far apart on the central issues of disarmament and sanctions relief. There are no plans for a third summit, but the US has expressed willingness to continue talks at a lower level. However North Korea says the US had wasted an opportunity that “may not come again” and Pyongyang’s position would not change even if the US seeks further talks.
