India Open 2025

Viktor Axelsen of Denmark and An Se-Young of Korea won the men's and women's India Open 2025 badminton titles respectively. Axelsen defeated Lee Cheuk Yiu in the men's final to win the title. An Se-Young defeated P. Chochuwong of Thailand in the women's final. In the men's doubles, Sze Fei Goh and Nur Izzuddin won over Won Ho Kim and Seung Jae Seo. In the women's doubles, Arisa Igarashi and Ayako Sakuramoto of Japan defeated Hye Jeong Kim and Hee Yong Kong. In the mixed doubles, Zheng Bang Jiang and Ya Xin Wei of China defeated Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue of France. The annual tournament was held from 14 to 19 January 2025 at the K.D. Jadhav Indoor Stadium in New Delhi.

 

 Chief Justice of Delhi High Court

Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay took oath as the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court. Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena administered the oath to him. Earlier, he was the Chief Justice of Bombay High Court. The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended his transfer on 7 January 2025. Justice Upadhyay, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, took over as a judge of Allahabad High Court on 21 November 2011. After his transfer, Justice Vibhu Bakhru was the acting Chief Justice. The appointment came after the promotion of Justice Manmohan to the Supreme Court.

 

'Deendayal Upadhyay Bhumiheen Krishi Mazdoor Kalyan Yojana'

The Chhattisgarh government has launched the 'Deendayal Upadhyay Bhumiheen Krishi Mazdoor Kalyan Yojana'. Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai launched the scheme in Raipur. Under the scheme, 5.62 lakh landless agricultural laborers will get financial assistance of ₹ 10,000 annually. It also includes people from Baiga and Gunia communities. A budget of Rs 562 crore has been allocated for the scheme. On the same day, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of 813 projects in the 'Nagar Vikas Ke Sopan' program, which cost ₹ 155.38 crore. Also, 70 works of urban bodies were inaugurated.

 

National emergency on the US-Mexico border

US President Donald Trump declared a national emergency on the US-Mexico border. He took several tough steps on immigration and asylum. Trump announced to deploy the army and end birthright citizenship. He signed an order to use federal funding to build a wall on the US-Mexico border and declare Mexican drug cartels as terrorist organizations. He also started the process of separating the US from the WHO. This emergency gave Trump special powers on the border.
