Context - The Ministry of Defence plans to increase NCC cadets from 17 lakh to 27 lakh over the next decade. This expansion targets a wider presence in educational institutions, especially in border areas.


The NCC, established under the National Cadet Corps Act of 1948, traces its roots to the "University Corps" created in 1917 to address Army shortages.
