Context
The 'Laghu Bana Jatya Drabya Kraya' (LABHA) Yojana, an entirely State-funded minimum support price (MSP) initiative for minor forest produce (MFP), has been introduced by the Odisha government.
About
This initiative is designed to cater to the significant tribal population in Odisha, comprising 23% of the total populace. The scheme involves the annual determination of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Minor Forest Produce (MFP) by the State government. This ensures that primary collectors, predominantly tribal individuals, can vend the MFP at the MSP.
To enhance transparency and efficiency, procurement centers will be established, overseen by Women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and other agencies supported by the Tribal Development Cooperative Corporation Limited of Odisha (TDCCOL).
The LABHA Yojana is anticipated to eradicate distress sales to middlemen and foster sustainable economic activities in tribal regions.
