Topic Description:

Fourth South Asian Speakers' Summit was held in Maldives on 1st and 2nd September with focus on Achieving the sustainable development goals . The summit was attended by senior lawmakers from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan , India, Pakistan, and Srilanka. Indian delegation to the summit included Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh and Secretary General of both houses.

At the end of the Summit, Male Declaration was adopted which included a commitment to work collectively on promoting equality at work, nutrition, food security and overcoming challenges and utilizing opportunities to strengthen the regional agenda for delivering on Paris agreement.

During the summit Indian delegation also foiled an attempt by Pakistan to raise bilateral issues at this forum.
