On 7th of March 2020, Jan Aushadhi Diwas will be celebrated across India. This day will celebrate the achievements of the scheme and provide motivation. The Prime Minister will be participating in this day’s event through video conferencing from New Delhi. He will be interacting with seven Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana Kendras. Various programs are organized on this day at the Kendras to bring awareness about this scheme among the people.

In this DNS we will know about Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi PariYojana.

This scheme ‘Jan Aushadhi’ was launched in the year 2008 by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers. The scheme was revamped in the year2015 as ‘Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Yojana’. Later on to bring further momentum, it was again renamed as ‘Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana’ (PMBJP).

Jan Aushadhi Diwas marks the anniversary of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi PariYojana. This scheme was launched to make affordable and generic medicine common and popular among people. The main objective of this scheme is to make quality medicines available at affordable prices. This will particularly be beneficial for the poor and the disadvantaged people. The medicines through this scheme were made to be available from Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendras. This would help in reducing the expenses in healthcare.

The scheme Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana launched by The department of Pharmaceuticals, Government of India, visions to bring down the health care budget of the people and with this it aims to create awareness among public about generic medicines. Create demand for generic medicines through medical practioners. Create awareness through education and awareness programs that high price does not mean high quality. Also it provides all the health care related products too within this scheme.

On 7th of March the Pm will be interacting with store owner and beneficiaries through video conferencing. Each Jan Aushadhi outlet will telecast the message of the Prime Minister through Doordarshan. In some of the selected stores, panel discussion with doctors, media persons, pharmacists and beneficiaries will be held. These Jan Aushadhi Kendras are considered to be the biggest retail pharma chains in the world with around 6,200 outlets in 700 districts. Talking about the sales, in the financial year 2019-20 it crossed Rs 390 crore and a saving of about 2,200 crore rupees from common citizens. This scheme tends to be a good source of self-employment as well with sustainable and regular earnings.

Not only had this but a mobile application named ‘Janaushadhi Sugam’ has been launched last year. This application will be helpful to the people in finding the nearest Jan Aushadhi Kendras. Jan Aushadhi week has been celebrated from 1st of March to 7th of March. During this free medical checkup camp, free doctor consultation, free medicine distribution was organized at various Kendras.

As per the words of the PM today through video conferencing, Jan Aushadhi Day is not just a day to celebrate the scheme but an opportunity to connect with millions of Indians and millions of families who have benefitted from it. He also mentioned that 6,200 Jan Aushadhi Kendras are operational across the country, where 900 types of medicines and 154 surgical instruments are available.
