The National crime records bureau has recently released a study on missing persons. This study is especially on women and children in India. In the year2019, Supreme Court directed the NCRB to analyze the data on missing persons. The analysis was directed to identify the areas prone to child and women trafficking.

In this DNS we will know about the study done by NCRB and also look at the states with large number of missing people.

The NCRB conducted a study on missing people. This study was directed by the Supreme Court. There are a lot of people who get missing due to various reasons among which human trafficking is also a part. Children and women are prone to these trafficking issues. Some parts of our country report a large number of these incidents. These places can be the sources or the destinations of the trafficking. The data for this study has been taken from annual Crime in India report. This report was compiled by NCRB for the 2016, 17 and 18.

Talking about the national scenario, the study has found out that in the year 2018, most of the missing children were reported from Madhya Pradesh. The calculated amount of missing children from MP was 10,038. This was followed by West Bengal with 8,205 children. In the same year most number of missing women was reported from Maharashtra followed by West Bengal.

Maharashtra, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh are the three most vulnerable states. Within these three states cities like Mumbai and Pune, Kolkata and Indore recorded the highest number of missing women. Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Delhi and Bihar were on the top with maximum number of missing children. Indore reported the highest number of missing children. Whereas West Bengal’s Nadia district, bordering Bangladesh, showed a steep increase from 291 missing children reports in the year 2017 to 474 in 2018.

It was setup in the year 1986 to function as repository of information on crime and criminals. The mission was to empower the Indian police with Information Technology and criminal intelligence.
